Eleanora Hope-Henderson
Spring Flowers, 1994 Daffodils

b. 1917

Born Edinburgh, the daughter of Major David A Spence, farmer and land agent. She was educated at St. George’s, Edinburgh and studied at Edinburgh College of Art under Sir William Gillies. Her work was highly commended and achieved some of the highest awards during her studies. Until her marriage, she painted as EA Borrie, sometimes known as Leonard Borrie, as she thought that being known as a man would give her work greater recognition. Her expressive work, typically in oil, captures still life and interior scenes.
