Born in Norwich and studied graphic design at Norwich School of Art & Design. She went on to work in design and publicity and taught letting and calligraphy in the 1950s. Kay Ohsten became one of the most versatile and sought-after artists in the region. She is renowned for her watercolour landscapes of the East Anglian coast, created in the signature style for which she was best known – a free and confident use of paint which perfectly complements the wild and often inclement weather of the region. Her great love of Norwich is evident in her architectural depictions of the city. She worked in varied medium from watercolour, pastels and charcoals to screen printing, collage and sculpture.
