Leslie Marr

b. 1922 -

Born in Durham. Began painting in Palestine during WW2. After the war was taught by David Bomberg at the Borough Polytechnic along with contemporaries Frank Auerbach and Leon Kossoff.

Along with a small group of Bomberg's students including Cliff Holden, Peter Richmond (Miles Richmond), Dorothy Mead and Lilian Holt, Marr went on to dedicate much of his work to Bomberg’s style and teachings.

Became a member and Secretary of the Borough Group, created by Bomberg in 1949, and took part in many of its exhibitions. Later married Bomberg's step-daughter, Dinora Mendelson. Now lives on the Isle of Arran.
